Lack of real support, answers, etc when computer crashed after using their product

I've used Norton products for years and never had a bit of trouble with them, never contacted the company for any type of help. Since they changed a couple years ago — (would automatically debit any credit card used on line to purchase with next year's version) — I wanted control of my own card and wheter I purchases Norton or not. So for the last couple years, I have purchased the Norton products at a store location.

On Dec. 2, I attempted to install Norton Internet Security 2008. At that moment, my computer (which had been working well), crashed. It would not function, would not start in safe mode or any other way. I contacted Norton's help site (though a friend's computer). They responded that I would be contacted in 24 hours.

A few days later, when I contacted them again, they said they would contact me in 96 hours. Many days later, they said I should uninstall any old Norton products and reinstall the new, also I could contact them in 21 days if that did not solve my issue. Obviously, I can not uninstall anything on a computer that no longer has a functioning hard drive.in one email, I asked if it were true that this software clears away essential parts of my XP computer, considering them to be a "virus". They never responded with any type of answer to this question.

Eventually, I took my computer in to a professional who attempted to reboot, and/or save any files — most of which were irreplaceable. He was not successful, although many hours of effort were spent on this problem.
I'm very angry. Norton does not stand by their product. Norton does not care about real and serious issues. Norton thinks I will give up. I will continue to contact them until there is some reasonable reply.

I'm not after money, do not believe that they will cover the cost of my new computer, but believe that they should at least return my money for the defective product that, in my personal opinion, caused the "issue". An expression of "sorry", or even "too bad" would not be out of place.
