About two months ago we ordered an electric blanket from Penney's via the Internet. Shortly after we started getting calls from a Ben Stonebridge who is unknown to us. We are on a no call list. We had no idea who he was and didn't answer the calls.
Last month I noticed a bill on my credit card for $9.95 and wondered who that could be. I meant to ask my wife if she knew but just forgot about it and never asked. This month the same charge returned. I did an Internet search only to find this is a ripoff that has been implemented by JC Penney Co. To rip off their customers. This apparently happens if you accept their offer of an instant rebate in the amount of $9.95. No where are you informed that the rebate comes with a recurring charge of the same amount.
There is a phone number to call: 888-527-6839 which is supposed to be answered 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM M-F and 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM Sat. There is also an email address: [email protected]. Presumably either may be used to cancel the account but I am sure neither will get your money back. I am waiting until Monday to see if they even respond.in the mean time I am telling my credit card company to stop payment.
