I purchased a very expensive laptop from LinuxCertified, with all the options.
It came through the mail with 3 pages of photocopied documentation - It told me how to log in to Ubuntu Linux. No listing of what's inside the computer, not even a packing slip!
The package includes a telephone cable and the software detects the internal modem, but when I try to activate the modem nothing happens. I ask LinuxCertified how to make the modem work. They tell me the modem is "not supported" under Ubuntu Linux!
That's the reason I went to LinuxCertified in the first place! So I would have Linux-supported hardware!
Now I have a $1685 paperweight. But, at least it came with a nice bag to put it in.
I sent email asking them for a list of what's inside the computer. They won't tell. They can only tell me that it's "custom". They won't even tell me if the know what's inside.
The last three computers I owned, I built myself. I have 25 years of experience as a computer programmer. I have purchased any number of computers for the company I work for. I have never experienced such disregard for a customer from any computer maker.
When I purchase a computer like this, paying someone to take care of the details of making it work, I expect something more than a mystery box. I expect a functioning computer, with some technical documentation.
My most minumum expectation is some accounting of what's inside the box!
What is the value of a computer that doesn't work? With who knows what inside?
