ComCast Cable Company Practices - Do They Violate FCC Laws? Service turned off - Refusal to provide documentation for charges - Poor equipment - Threats

While living in Florida, I had the extreme misfortune of doing business with ComCast. I am posting below a complaint that I filed with the BBB but which received no response from ComCast and the BBB simply closed it.

In addition to the information below, they sent me a threatening statement that I had equipment that belonged to them when their own technicians had picked up the equipment before I moved. Bear in mind that they sent it to my new address; yet I still have not received the accounting information and proof of my indebtedness to them. Although, I believe the law entitles me to that information.

With all the complaints all over the net about ComCast, why isn't the government stepping in to investigate possible fraud?

Consumer's Original Complaint:
When I first moved to Brandon, FL the cable was supplied by Adelphia. My complex had a contract with Adelphia and said I had to use Adelphia if I wanted cable television. Fees for the basic service were paid through my complex when I paid my rent each month. They gave me a number to contact a person that serviced our complex who told me that since I was in a contracted complex that there would be no installation fees. I subscribed for internet and a DVR recorder which was to be billed directly to me.

The bill was incorrect and after speaking with a representative in December, I was told to make a payment of $14 and some odd cents and that I would not owe anything else until I received my bill in January. I did this and my next bill indicated that all I owed was for that month, $50 and some odd cents. I made the payment. Suddenly, I get another bill telling me I am delinquent. I phoned Comcast and the service person gave me a confirmation number that I would receive a call from the accounting department. She stated she hoped I heard from them because they were not very good at making calls.

They did not call me and I made my next payment. When I returned from a trip on March 25, my services had been suspended for non-payment. I phoned and went through the entire process again and was given another number and another promise of a call from accounting. During this call I told them I was not reconnecting my service and I was not paying them anything else until they sent me an itemized statement for my services and payments received from the first day I received service. I did not receive a call and as of April 11, I have not received the requested documentation. I gave them my new address to send this to.

Although they have been unable to provide the documentation, I received a bill at my new address just fine. As a consumer, I am frustrated beyond measure because I am forced to pay this bill even while it is in question in order to protect my credit rating.

There were other issues such as having to have the DVR box replaced because you couldn't see an image, just the voice. Then another time calling when the DVR player did not work properly and being told they would have a local technician schedule a call. I never received a call and for the duration of my service, was forced to unplug and reboot the DVR frequently if I wanted to watch recorded programs.

Another time, when they were billing through Adelphia, I came home to find my services disconnected. I phoned them and was told I had called and told them to do that. Finally, they said that Comcast was merging the Adelphia info with their own and a lot of accounts had gotten messed up.

Then they gave me another account number because the service had been disconnected and they could not use the name number. Then Comcast starts the billing and it is messed up again. There is no way to make heads or tails of this mess when they refuse to provide the documentation that I request and have every right to; for their failure to provide it is the same as a refusal.
