I have had several AOL accounts over the years. I've had to turn them off for a variety of reasons (moving, etc.) I have noticed that its getting harder and harder to cancel.
Most recently, I closed an account in December. It took 10 days, at over 2 hours per day talking to reps to get it closed. The reps I spoke to would not let me close the account.
Even at the end of a conversation, after I had gone through hell to get them to just close the account, I would check the next day to verify, only to discover that the rep did not close the account at all - they just pretended the conversation never happened (for my own good, they said - nothing is more important that having AOL, even if you can't log on, for whatever reason).
I suppose I could have simply temporarily suspended the account, but with cust svc like that, I don't want to do business with them any more.
Beyond that, to this day (March) they are STILL BILLING ME for this closed account. 22 every single month (sometimes twice a month). I can not get them to stop. I've even tried to close my bank account, but the account reopens with a negative balance when they force a charge through!
I'm at the point where I've considered turning the account back on, so that I can 'get caught' doing something naughty - maybe then they'll turn the d@mn thing off!
