IPOWER, IPOWERWEB, charged me for renewal of my domain name, after I canceled service with them

I registered a domain name with Ipower.com a year ago. I never did anything with the domain name, and forgot all about it for awhile. I then called their Billing Support to cancel the domain name from renewing at the beginning of February. (Yes for some reason this company puts your domain names on auto-renew. I've never know any other domain name provider that does this.)

Their Billing representative told me she cancled my account, and stopped the domain name from renewing.

A day or two later I noticed a charge from them in my bank account of $6.50. I tried calling them but was put on hold, and they never came back to the phone. So I hanged up and emailed their billing support online about it, and this is what they had to say

Response 1:
Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting the IPOWER Billing Team. Your payment was processed allready. We have canceled and setup for a refund of the $6.50. Should you need to speak with a billing representative, please call 1-888-511-4678 option 4.
Thank you
Billing

After not seeing any refund/credit in my account after 2 days I emailed them again about the problem... And this is what they had to say...

Response 2:
Dear Customer,
Please clarify, it appears as of 2/6 you requested to go ahead and keep this domain name rather than cancelling. We do not want to lose you as a customer, please specify what you wish to do at this point. Please note however, unfortunately, the $6.50 registration fee is non-refundable.
Thank you.

Amazing how they can go from saying they have canceled my account and have setup for a refund, then 2 days later tell me the $6.50 domain name fee is a non-refundable registration fee and that I had requested to go ahead and keep this domain name? That is a lie! I called to cancel my domain name before it was suppose to renew. Shady business practice!

Anyway I decided to dispute this charge with my bank. They have given me provisional credit for now. I know it's just a little amount of money but still they had no business charging me for the renewal of the domain name after I canceled my account with them.

They have a unsatisfactory record with the better business bureau, and on here as well. It's no surprise. I wouldn't trust this company with hosting anyone's websites in the future.
