Charter Communications disconnected my phone because I didn't pay the bill. I didn't pay it because I didn't specifically ask about my phone service when I paid my cable and broadband bill. I went to the local office and asked what I owed them, and then I paid it. A few months later my phone was disconnected because they said I didn't pay the bill. OK, so I went down to the office and specifically asked what the balance on my phone bill was. $90. I pay. A few hours later my phone's back on.
Now for the fun part.
The next day, my phone doesn't work anymore. After an hour and a half on hold, I find out that I have to pay a $60 reconnection fee before my phone can be reconnected. I tell them that's not true, my phone was already reconnected, that I paid the balance in full, and my phone worked. They say if I want it to work again, I'll need to pay the $60.
So I go down there and pay it. My phones supposed to be reconnected by 6:00 that night. It only took a half hour before, but whatever.
I go to the webpage at 9:00 because my phone still has no dialtone. After slogging through a merry-go-round of menus, I get a chat applet that tells me to wait to be connected to a customer service representative. 30 minutes later, I get a rep. She says I still owe $192.00 on my phone bill.
I go off. I write to my assemblypersons, Representatives, and Senators. I file a complaint with the State Consumer Protection office. I plan on calling my local news media. They will rue the day they tried to squeeze me.
