I just finished "unverifying" my PayPal account. I am in the midst of a dispute over a sale on eBay (material for another complaint) with payment through PayPal. PayPal declared, "The Buyer Complaint Policy does not apply to disputes about the attributes or quality of goods received." In other words, if anything is shipped, PayPal does not participate. How about we just put a brick in the box?
I reversed the charge to PayPal with my credit card issuer. PayPal is legally "The Merchant of Record" and will doubtless charge back the seller per their "seller's agreement." (They do not let on to "buyers" that the sellers have already agreed to these terms.) But I digress.
From reading other complaints against PayPal, I decided it was wise to delete my checking account information (thereby no longer being "verified") to negate the possibility of their sucking the money back out of my checking account. This would be unrecoverable funds at that point. I have read of complaints of PayPal holding customer funds "hostage" during a dispute if the customer was careless or unknowledgeable enough to allow them to hold funds.
Want some real stress? Start a series of transactions originating on eBay with payment handled by PayPal. When things go right, it is a smooth operation. When they do not, uhhh, ummm, you are in for it, Holmes!
