Supports Identity Theft Refuses to work with police

Dell, and thier subsidiarey, DFS (Perferred Accounts) and CIT Financial Services supports identity theft.

In 2002 someone using my personal information attempted to obtain credit in my name through Dell. I notified Dell at that time that it was fraudulent. I attempted to get a copy of the application, but was refused. I was told that the police could request it. Like a good law abiding citizen, I filed a police report. The local PD contacted Dell and DFS and was REFUSED any copy of the application.

In 2003 someone again attempted to obtain credit from Dell. Again, absolutly NO support from Dell in attempting to determine who may have been trying to use my personal information.

In October, I once again was hit, but this time, the same person attempted to get credit in the name of 38 residents of the nursing home I worked for. This pretty much confirmed to me that it was someone I was working with at the time. The head of security for the nursing home, the Rochester Police Department and the Monroe County DAs office all tried to get information from Dell - The DAs office using a subpeona - and again Dell refused to surrender the information.

I have contacted Dell ([email protected]) asking why there is such a lack of corporate support in resolving this. I received a response from Dorothy Rivera who states that she is

"a member of the Executive Support Staff located in the Corporate Headquarters.
I received a copy of the e-mail sent to Mr. Dell concerning the fraud issue on the account.

Let me go over what you stated to see if I have this correct. You were informed in some way that your identity was stolen and that person purchased a Dell product in your name and information through the Dell Preferred Accounts? (This is our in house financing) You called to inquire about the account, and was refused information. Is this correct?

I would rather speak to you about this over the phone, but let me go through a couple of things concerning this first.

One is that Dell Inc. And Dell Preferred Accounts are two separate entities... Meaning two separate companies. Dell Inc is the manufacturer of the product and our Customer Care only has configuration and pricing information. We have no access to Dell Preferred Account information at all.

Two, is that Dell Preferred Account has a Fraud department that you must contact to get information. They do not take phone questions for obvious reasons. If someone has indeed created an account over the phone perpetrating to be you, they would not allow phone call inquiries on an account they have flagged as a Fraud issue. The Fraud department would then ask you to follow there steps. Which include filing a police report. You may contact them at: 877-459-7299 for more information.

I hope this helps you resolve your issue. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank You
Dorothy Rivera

First off, she of course referred me back to the very people who refused to provide the information in the first place...

Secondly, there is no way I would ever believe that Dell Fiancial Services, which is a listed subsidiary of Dell, Inc is a "seperate company".

I will never buy a Dell product. I would encourage everyone, private citizens, corporations, government entities, to NEVER buy Dell until they show some corporate balls and responsiblity.
