I was contacted by an individual who identified himself as Robert Duran. He contacted me by e-mail through ebay. I had an engagement ring listed for sale.
He was interested in purchasing the ring. I was naive and this was my first time selling on ebay. So I was unaware that ebay provided escrow.
He set up a phony website showing that he transferred the amount we agreed upon. The company name was Midland Escrows and was supposively located in Iowa. It showed the proper amount of money so I mailed the ring.
As soon as I let Robert know that I mailed the ring, I could no longer access the Midland Escrows website. I sent an e-mail to them and it got sent back undelivered. I also tried to contact Robert but he too was unreachable.
This all occurred in October. It still turns my stomach that someone would be so cold and calculating. The worst part is that this guy lives in Belgium so I feel I have no recourse and that he will go unpunished for what he has done to me.
