Ripoff not free dell laptop scam a come-on for sales Apparently, bait and switch is also part of the modus operandi

Rather than retype the message I sent to this company, I will paste it in after indicating that I was suckered into this ad scam by an ad on the CBS website offering a free Dell laptop worth up to $700.

Here is what I wrote to Emarket research - I never got a reply, but I got billed by vendors such as Blockbuster, AOL, smartreader books, etc. It has been a pain to cancel and contest the various charges and products:

I went through your incredibly lengthy, supposedly free promotional offer on October 15. The further I got into this promo, the less "free" the Dell laptop became. Nevertheless, I went all the way through it and ordered everything required. At the very end, after initially telling me DirecTV was available in my area, it told me it wasn't available in my area. My only other option was to purchase a Prestige credit card for at least $150.in other words, pay for something I had no need for and which provides no value. That made your promo far from involving a "free Dell laptop". It made it a false and misleading solicitation.

Since that date, I have received nothing indicating that I am to receive my Dell laptop. I spent at least 2 hours of my time going through what now appears to be nothing more than a blatant, dishonest consumer rip-off and I have received no confirmation of the Dell laptop "worth up to $799". Today I checked your home site and found that I have two more "offers" to complete to get my "IBM laptop". Apparently, bait and switch is also part of your modus operandi.

I need confirmation from you by Tuesday Nov. 9 that I will be receiving a Dell laptop free, as advertised and I need to know the details and specifics thereof. If I have not received such confirmation, this will confirm my belief that this was a complete scam, and a violation of both Minnesota and federal truth in advertising laws. Please understand that, as a practicing attorney, I am familiar with consumer laws under Minnesota chapter 325. Further understand that you are jeopardizing the good name and good will of the reputable businesses whose names you have apparently besmirched in this apparently bogus marketing plan. If I have to, I will terminate all relationships created through your well-disguised marketing scheme. Those vendors include AOL, Blockbuster, Discover, Smartreader and BMG Music.

If you have any ounce of integrity as a business, you will reply promptly to this email with an actual name and address. Your site suggests to me that you don't want to get this type of communication.
