So. Yet another free disc story that ends with the victim (me) being out a couple of hundred dollars. I am traveling overseas and my bank pays my CC bills. So you can imagine my "shock and awe" when my copies of my CC bills finally caught up with me 11 months after i had cancelled my "free" aol service. Well. To make a long story short. I was told that this could not possibly have happened and i must be mistake as there would be an electronic "footprint" if i had cancelled.
Little did i suspect that i was up against a multi-level rip off. I complained loudly and was forwarded to a supervisor who was rude and short and nasty. Ok one month returned charges and too bad about the rest. I then called my visa card co. Where i lodged a disputed charge. I was informed that this is their NUMBER ONE (#1!!!) complaint and that they will refund me three months fees.
Realizing now that something intentional was going on i called aol back and got really angy and indignant (but did not yell) i was promised a 3 month credit. We shall see.
In any event, i find this shameful and sad that a co. Like TIME WARNER has to sink to such depths to make a buck. How does the saying go? IT IS EASIER TO STEAL A DOLLAR FROM A MILLION PEOPLE THAN TO STEAL A MILLION DOLLARS FROM ONE PERSON!
I guess in reality they have a good thing going because the amounts are not small. I am hoping for the day when there will be a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT as i am sure there will be one day.
