I went into your new Mayfield Heights location in Ohio at 7:30pm on 11/11. Me and two friends were waiting for a table to open up at a nearby eatery an we went in to browse for merchandise while we waited. My friend bought a energy drink and did not drink it because we were in a restaurant. We went back in after to grab some candy before a movie the same night at 9:20, and we never left the candy aisle near the registers.
While we were walking out a manager told us to come back in and argued with my friend that he stole the drink. We cooperated with her because we thought that any rational person would understand this situation as a mix up once they knew that we were already in the store and purchased the drink. We tried to explain to her the misunderstanding but all she did is yell and tell us that we should get out before she called the cops and we all "went to jail for a 2 dollar drink." She rudely grabbed the drink and told us to leave while a large man (not a drug mart employee) stood behind her.
I left kind of disturbed and hurt that I was treated like a criminal, and my side of the story was not even herd. I understand we were there close to closing and that is considered suspicious. I have worked retail before and I can understand the feeling, but the way we were approached was in a threatening, aggressive, discriminatory and unprofessional manner. I am amazed that a store manager is trained to respond to suspicious people by threatening them with jail. To be completely honest I do not think I will ever do business with a Drug Mart again until I am apologized to, and in this age of technology and social media I can communicate my displeasure with hundreds of my peers. I have never stolen anything in my life and I am still bothered about this episode several hours later. Hopefully something is done about this.
