The Assembly Cafe
Jennifer (Owner) Rude and overpriced!

I had never been to the Assembly Cafe until a friend urged me to go. I had such a great time, a great waiter, and awesome service! But, unfortunately, after going for more than one Friday, my friends and I had a very unearthing experience.

The main concern of the Assembly Cafe is that if you want to come and just sit and have a good time, you at least have to purchase a drink. The drink will cost you a whopping two dollars (even though it specifically says on the menu $1.69). I completely agree with the fact that if you are going to a restaurant, you should buy something. It's not a free ride. BUT: two dollars? And maybe I should remind you... There are NO free refills! UNLESS you buy food.

So, tonight (March 5), my friends and I were having a good time. The Assembly Cafe is smoke-friendly (i'm 18). So, we were just smoking and dancing. And there is karaoke; that's the main reason we go!

Well, we ordered our drinks. My friend and I both paid two dollars to our waiter who had already left for the night (in which we did NOT receive a ticket with our purchase), BUT we abided by their rules. My friend ended up getting a refill, which isn't free. But somehow a $1.69 drink that turned into a $2 drink ended up being $3.18! Now I ask, how is that?

I haven't even gotten to the worst part yet!

Our ashtray was taken by our waitress (I do not know her name..).

The owner is Jennifer and I'm assuming her husband is part owner (who runs the karaoke). Well, Jennifer and our waitress come to our table to interrogate everyone. She asks if we've paid for our drinks. We tell her we had already paid, (this is when my friend pays for her refill). One of our friends had come in and sat down just a bit ago. He wasn't smoking or doing anything that would constitute as inappropriate or anything of the nature.

Jennifer asks if he's bought a drink. He hasn't. He just arrived maybe 10 minutes before she came to our table with the waitress.

She then says (not verbatim. But extremely close..), "Listen, you are in a restaurant. If you want to sit here, then you have to buy a drink, or you can leave. We are not here to babysit you. So, if you want to be here, buy something or leave." How rude? She had a complete attitude with him! It was completely and totally uncalled for.

He ends up leaving because of her. My friends and I were just sitting and talking about how rude she was toward our friend and that she still didn't bring us an ashtray. (this may NOT be true. But we kind of put 2 and 2 together and figured that Jennifer had told our waitress not to bring us one until she finds out if we've paid or not). And even after she did, we still didn't get an ashtray.

I would say that the main problem here is the way that she treats her customers. Now, don't get me wrong, I COMPLETELY understand why we would have to pay for a drink considering the fact we were at a restaurant. But she didn't need to be so rude and condescending towards anyone.

All in all, The Assembly Cafe is a hangout. Teenagers go on Friday nights to have a good time with their friends. NO ONE should be treated the way we were treated. No one. I think something needs to change, and quickly! If it weren't for the teens on Friday nights, they would lose a lot of business.
