Got hurt while volunteering

I started volunteering at High Point Hospital in October and was assigned to Medical Records. I was given no job description or was not advised of my supervisor. It was my job to input the medical charges from the patients in the Emergency Room. Katrina Courson was my trainer as I have no medical background.in Medical Records, there are only two coders in Medical Records that code the work from the Emergency Room. At the beginning of September my right side hurt as I could not lay on my right side. I made an appointment with my doctor, Dr. Sherry Ryter-Brown of Kernersville Family Practice, 336-993-8181 and made an appointment as I was sneezing so much. While at my appointment on September 16, I informed her that my right shoulder had been hurting me for several weeks. She prescribed DICLOFENAC SODIUM 75 MG to take twice a day. She told me that when I was to see her in October for my six-month checkup if my shoulder wasn't better, that she would have to refer me to an orthopedic doctor. She claimed it was my rotator cuff.

On September 17, I emailed Bobbi Watkins, Director, Volunteer Services of what had happened on September 16. Ms. Watkins assigned me to the Heart Center Information Desk. Then the first of October, she assigned me to the Thomasville Rehab Center and told me that they were looking for part-time help. When I was assigned to the Heart Center and the Rehab Center, I was given a job description of each position but was not informed of a supervisor at each assignment.

On October 28, I was in the Director's office to turn in my volunteer hours for the month of October. Upon coming out of her office, she informed me that she had called the Rehab office for my hours.

On November 4, I turned in another copy of my hours for Octoberalong with a copy of my email of September 17 as Ms. Watkins claims the hospital blocks her emails. Ms. Watkins left a message at my residence on Tuesday, November 2, to return her call as she did not have my email address. I could not do such as I was busy with other things that needed my attention. If she doesn't get emails, why did she request my email?

I did not know when we were put in an office that we had a supervisor. I was never informed of such; that is why I emailed Ms. Watkins the injury.

I attended a meeting on October 21 from 5 P.M. To 7 P.M. And a booklet was given out. And in reading the booklet that is where I learned about supervisors.

I really got upset as I got hurt doing a job and was excellent in attendance and getting my work done. On November 5, I wrote to Ms. Katherine Burns, VP, People Services of High Point Hospital of my dilemma. On November 12, I received a letter from Ms. Burns dated November 9, reviewing my concerns with Ms. Watkins and there would be a followup call from Ms. Pam Kemp, Manager of Occupational Health and Wellness regarding my shoulder pain.

I then received the phone call from Ms. Kemp on Monday, November 15 and returned the call on Tuesday, November 16 and was told that I should have gotten breaks during the three-hour period. No one advised me of such for a three-hour time frame. The workload was unreasonably HEAVY ALL THE TIME.

On Thursday, November 18, I advised Ms. Watkins that my assignment was over at the Rehab Center. I worked there Tuesdays and Thursdays doing office work assisting Ella, receptionist, of the duties that was required. I, in turn, received a call from Ms. Watkins to return the call. On Friday, November 19, I did return Ms. Watkins' call to learn that she did not have another assignment for me.

I knew it. Because I got hurt doing a job, they don't care.
