More Than Just a Dental Visit-It's a Scam

I, like the other reporter, went to Cornerstar Dental because they are on an approved list of dentists with my insurance company. I was impressed with their hours since they are open late a couple of nights a week. This works out well for a working person.

I was immediately taken in for x-rays, so many were taken it took well over 20 minutes. The equipment was top of the line, and the technician was very pleasant. I then waited for approximately 30 minutes to see a dentist. The dentist told me that I needed a crown over one of my previous fillings. I had three crown options, but the best one was more expensive than the others. He also told me I had periodontal disease and I would need an intensive cleaning, with numbing agents.in addition to that, I needed to have a cavity filled, but I needed to think about using the best filling agent, not the type I had previously received when getting fillings.

Because of the above, I couldn't receive any treatments that day, I would need to wait. He then told me to wait and I would find out the costs of all of those treatments. After almost a 20 minute wait, a new person came in and went over my insurance and self-pay costs. The crown they recommended would cost me over $1200 out of pocket (after my insurance paid their portion), and the least expensive crown would cost me over $400 out of pocket. The filling I needed would cost over $700 out-of-pocket, while the cheaper filling that I was told wouldn't last as long would cost less than $100 out of pocket. I had now been at the dentist for more than 1 1/2 hours and still no service, other than the x-rays. I was told that my gums were in bad shape, but I wouldn't be able to get in to see the hygenist for almost a month.

I told them I had never seen a dentist before that spent this much time with me, doing nothing and I told them I was leaving. Then, all of a sudden, the hygenist that was too busy to see me, told me she finished up with her patient early and she would see me for 1/2 hour. She took various measurements and told me that I needed to have a certain kind of treatment treatment, and it would take many visits. She left to find out what my insurance would cover. After waiting for another 15 minutes with no one returning to the room, I went out to reception and found the insurance girl who showed me that my first three visits would cost almost $1,000, and then I would need to continue to come every 6 weeks.

I told them I would think about everything they said, and they had me sign all kinds of forms saying I declined their treatment. I finally managed to get out of there, after 2 hours and 15 minutes, without having any dental treatment whatsoever. I have never experienced such a horrible dental experience, and I hope I can save you from experiencing it. I wish I would have read Doug's report before I went, I could have then have used that time to visit a dentist that was concerned with my teeth, not how much money they could make off of me.

I will visit another dentist and I hope that this dentist will treat me when I have an appointment. I am certainly not doubting what Cornerstart Dental stated since I don't have a dental background to dispute it, but I do want to go to a dentist that will treat me during my appointment, not just sell me future visits.
