I signed up for a month to month contract and specifically asked the salesperson what was needed to end the contract when it came time for me to cancel and move back home (i am doing a temp job out here). He said all i had to do was give 30 days notice, which i did at the beginning of may 09 which means my contract should have ended the beginning of june 09, right? La fitness sent me an email stating that i couldnt end the contract till the end of july and they would continue to withdraw the monthly fee from my debit card till then. They dont provide a contact number to call and argue with someone, so, whatever.
The point is that it's really a nickel and dime world out there. No one does what they say they are going to do and there is always a hidden fee or some ridiculous excuse. The only honest gym i've ever encountered has been the ymca, no matter what town it's in. They do what they say they will, and when you want to quit, you just give them 30 day notice, cut and dried, no hassle. Live and learn and keep getting screwed in the meantime
