On September 29, I signed up for a membership with Gold's Gym in Vestavia Hills Alabama. Johnny Isbell signed me up for this membership. However, at the time, I was not shown a contract, only asked to sign my name in an electronic box. I also was not given a membership packet or a copy of any membership agreement.
On October 2, realizing that I didn't truly understand what I may have signed up for, I drove back to the gym and gave them a dated and signed cancellation letter. Alabama Law provides for cancellation within 72 hours of gym memberships.
On October 6, I received the following e-mail from Johnny Isbell:
Hey man, this is Johnny with Gold's. The billing office contacted me
about your request to cancel. I am kind of surprised that you are trying to
cancel. I thought you were pretty excited and serious about reaching your
fitness and health goals. I urge you to reconsider, or at least let us know
what we can do to help motivate you.

However, several weeks later, I still had received no refund of the charges to my credit card. Then at the start of the next month, I received an additional monthly charge. I contacted the General Manager of the gym, Jack Robertson, and explained the problem. After a few days delay, he notified me that "none of the employees I have spoken with have received a cancellation form." Huh???
I then asked Mr. Robertson, on two separate e-mails, who at Gold's Gym contacted Johnny Isbell regarding my cancellation? He has refused to answer this question both times, and refuses to refund my money. Since then, another monthly charge has posted to my account, and unfortunately I am left with few options other than to let a judge sort this out.
Consumers, do yourself a favor and avoid this disreputable company AT ALL COSTS.
