I have been a member of Gold's Gym in Bloomington for 3 years. I paid my membership fees every month. Recently they sent me a letter telling me that they are going to charge my credit card for a new "annual new equipment fee." Knowing that I did not sign a membership agreement to pay that fee I joined another gym and called Gold's to cancel my membership. I was transferred to someone else and had to leave a message but I was clear in the message that I do not want them to ever charge my credit card again.
The next day I received a voice message that I needed to go back to their gym to fill out a membership cancellation agreement and that they will charge my card again for one last time. I called again and made it clear that they are not authorized any longer to charge to my card but that if they feel that I still owe them money then they will have to deal with that some other way. They informed me that they had just charged my card that day (The day after I told them not to, two days before I was due to pay for the next month's membership.)
As for the annual new equipment fee, I was told by a Gold's Gym representative that in my agreement it says, "this agreement does not include the annual new equipment fee" which I suppose to them means that they can add an annual fee at anytime and for any price that is up to them.
