I signed up for a one-year membership and was told I could cancel after 12 months. I did cancel after 12 months because their hours didn't work for me anymore. I went into their location and wrote out a note to the manager that I was cancelling my membership. She called me back to say that I would be charged once more in August to cover the 30-day written notice period. Okay, fine... That should be the end of it.
It wasn't — I was billed again in Sept. 2008. After repeated attempts to get this owner to credit the $39 they overcharged me, I also contacted their corporate offices. They won't do anything because "each store is individually owned". I say that's a load of crap when their name is on the door!
I don't trust them not to bill me again in October, so I paid $32 to my bank to stop payment on any further charges from them. This is only good for 6 months, but I'm hoping they'll get the hint when the next draft comes back to them unpaid. If they dare to bill me again 6 months from now, I'm going to close my checking account and start a new one. I don't see any other options at this point and I'm the one who is out $71.
My advice: Don't ever sign up for a membership with Curves! Avoid them at all costs! It's just not worth the hassle if you have to cancel your membership.
