LA Studio doesn't have any prices posted anywhere in their store for any service: cut, color, perm, etc. At first I thought this was odd, but I didn't think anything of it. It was only later that I discovered the real reason why they don't have prices posted: so that they can make them up for each customer that comes in.
I went for a haircut in February and when I asked the receptionist I was told it would be $16 for a cut (no blow dry, style or shampoo.) I thought this was expensive, but I was desperate, so I had my hair cut and gave a tip. I went back for a second hair cut in August and was asked up front if I had been there before. I told the woman I had, but it was six months ago. I, again, had just a hair cut - no shampoo, style or blow dry. The hairdresser tried on several occasions to get me to have additional services done, but I refused as I only had a limited amount of money. After she was finished, I went up to pay. It was at this point that the receptionist said, "Okay, it's going to be..." and then looked at the hairdresser out the corner of her eye. After looking at her to confirm, she said, "That will be $20." What?! $20 for JUST a hair cut? When she said "$20" the hairdresser looked at her and slightly nodded and winked, as if approving this change of price.
I understand this may not seem like a big deal, but the issue at hand is this: LA Studio does not have prices posted ANYWHERE in the store. Not on a sign, papers, nothing. What type of establishment does that? The reason for them doing this is because they do what they did to me - they MAKE UP a price on a per-person basis. The price of a hair cut has NOT gone up $4 since February, and if it has, why isn't it posted anywhere? The hairdresser simply wanted to get a bigger tip, so she made up a higher price to try and rip me off. I have absolutely NO doubt that they do this to other unsuspecting customers as well. One month the price is $16, and the next month (with a different hairdresser) the price is $20. I can be certain they are doing this to other customers also and it should not be accepted. They are deliberately screwing over unsuspecting customers, and I'd be curious to know what others have paid for hair cuts if they have had their hair done there. I'm sure everyone will come up with a different price, and that is uncalled for and illegal. They should have their prices posted up front, and they should NOT be able to change the price depending upon the person that walks through the door. They are scamming innocent people. I will not be back, and I am making sure everyone knows about this.
