Charged for trial returned unopened Irvine California

I was offered a trial if I paid shipping and handling. I agreed. Then, I got an email saying I would be charged $39.95. I returned the package unopened. I was still charged. I went through my bank to have this debit disputed. The money was returned to my account, but then this company turned me over to a collection agency!
