In March i decided to join Golds Gym because i needed to get back in shape and it was the closest gym to my house. I was considering moving to California with my boyfriend but had not yet decided at this point and i even told Johnny the manager i was thinking about moving. I at first asked if i did move, if i could TRANSFER my account and he said no, id have to cancel this one here and then sign up at one here in California.
I then asked if i would need to pay a cancellation fee because i know alot of places dont make you pay a cancellation fee if you move out of state and HE SAID "NO, ALL YOU WILL NEED IS A UTILITY BILL WITH YOUR NAME AND OUT OF STATE ADDRESS ON IT" So, after that being said, I was like okay, thats all i need to cancel ill go ahead and sign up.
So July came and i had made up my mind and I moved to California. My boyfriend and i are staying at his mothers house for the time being and since i cant get any utilities in my name i call johnny to ask if i can use my check stub from work and he said absolutely, just fax it.
SO i did, even with a note saying please call me or fax me (at my work fax number) back to confirm you got this and noone ever did. SO this is towards the end of September when i do this, because i had forgotten and had school and work on my mind. During this time the money is still being taken out of my account.
Well since i never heard back from anyone, i called back and he said he didnt get it, to fax it again, that Knology, the cable people were there fixing their computers and phone lines bc their system has been down. So i fax it 3 more times a couple of days later, still nothing.
A couple of days go by and i finally get in touch with him bc i wait on hold for over 20 minutes and i asked him if he recieved the fax of my check stub and he then said i couldnt use a check stub.By this point im so mad i say 'you said i could use my check stub from work if i dont have a utility bill' and he said 'i thought you meant a check from your personal account'. He said hed take care of it and i asked for a fax of the confirmation of the account being cancelled. Still nothing.
A couple of days go by so i call again to ask if he recieved anything. Then he said he thinks he saw a fax like that and to hold on to my reciepts? (the transmission verification reports from my faxes) and that wed go from there and blows me off like its nothing. I asked if i will be charged for the month of october and he said yes, that i need to give him 30 days notice which i this is bs bc ive been trying for a couple of months. So i then ask to make sure i wont be charged for november and he says no.
I have phone records of all the times ive called and how long the phone calls were and the fax and this is pissing me off. I cancel the card to see if they try to take any money out and in january they send a bill to my parents house saying i owe 130 dollars, 2 late fees and 2 months worth.
I then call and speak with the accounts lady Lynette and she saw where i did give 30 days notice and EVEN SAID HERSELF "HMM, WELL I SEE WHERE YOU GAVE 30 DAYS NOTICE, I WONDER WHY HE DIDNT CANCEL IT. I tell you what, johnny is out of town so i will give you a call wednesday, hell be back then and ill talk to him'. So of course she never calls and i call her back a week later and she said that he said i never paid a cancellation fee thats why he didnt cancel my account. Then she says that she cant even access my account because their computers are down, to call her back. I then say im tired of being jerked around and she says im not being jerked around in a very rude tone. She then says shed be more than happy to sit down and talk with me when the computers are back up.
Ive called so many times from July to January just trying to cancel this stupid account and they wont even give me the time of day. I did everything i was supposed to and he hasnt done any of what he was. I just want to cancel this account. I would have paid the cancellation fee in the first place had he not told me i didnt need to bc i was moving out of state.
Now i have all these back charges because he didnt keep his word. SO im probably going to owe over 300,400 dollars because of this and it pisses me off. I feel like there is nothing i can do, me being 2500 miles away. This is the worst place to ever do business with. These people are sorry.
