I was searching the web for health insurance quotes and came accross a website offering to give free quotes online. After entering much of the required information, the closing statement read that I would get an email from the company (identified as SHPLANS. They called me several times, eventhough I had requested to receive the information in writing.
Finally I was told that I could get a family plan for $175 including $25 Dr's office visits, pay only 40% co-pay for hospitalization, and 10/20/40 for prescription drugs. I asked if I could get the information in writing, but was told that only after I submitted the "application" I could get an email with the info, and a package with the information. I finally gave my credit card number, and received the email which indicated that SHPlans is NOT a heath insurance program, and that the "members" had to pay the provider directly at the time of service" and that with their 'discount card' the member could get anything up to 18% in most cases—NOT 60% and that the doctor's visits were restricted to 4 visits per family, per year. Total misrepresentation online and over the phone. Needless to say I cancelled immediately, but was told I would get charged the $100 "application fee". CAUTION: If it sounds to good to be true... You know the rest. Live and learn.
