I was not ripped off money-wise, but I had a terrible experience at a doctor's office. If any of my friends or family said they were going here, I would do everything in my power to stop them, and I figured I should do the same for people I do not know. I also hope that they read this and clean up their act for the (poor, unknowing) people going there.
I went to work Wednesday but left after the first 2 hours because I was feeling sick-my tonsils and throat were hurting really bad. So I went home and looked on my insurance website and found a doctor's office near my home to go to. I got the appointment (I figured they had to be decent b/c they were on the website and also they were not a walk-in clinic). So I went in, and while I was waiting in the room the "nurse" came in. She seemed very nervous and didn't seem to know what she was doing, where anything was, etc.
She even asked me, "Do you have a cold or the flu?" I said, "I don't know, that's why I am here." She kept leaving the room to confer with the doctor I guess. I kept hearing them laugh. When she put the thing (don't know what it's called, to take your blood pressure) on my arm it was not tight enough and slipped down, I had to literally tell her, "It's not tight enough." Then I figured it out and asked her, "Are you a student?" She told me yes.
NO ONE warned me that she was a student and she had no one watching her. Then she went on to say that she HATED nursing and was not what she wanted to do b/c it was "too much" but she had to for her course, whatever she wanted to do. Then she left. Then the doctor, Dr. Gally came in. I let him know my symptoms and he simply shone a flashlight in my mouth and said, "Yeah, it's kind of red." (No test for strep throat.)
Then I explained that my period was late but I was not sure, because the month before it came a bit early, so I didn't know whether to go by that schedule or not. He did not offer, so I said, "I want to get a pregnancy test." So he let me know that I could not be put on antibiotics until the test came back, which I was fine with. I asked when I would get the results, he said tomorrow (Thursday).
I was not done telling him my symptoms though, but he really seemed disinterested in what I had to say. I explained to him that I just quit smoking a couple weeks ago and that when I smoked I used to get strep throat all the time. He didn't really seem to care. Then he was ready to run out the door and I said, "I'm not finished yet." I told him the rest of my symptoms, and that I wanted a doctor's note. So then the "nurse" came back in to take my blood (I could hear them laughing b/c she did not want to take the blood). She did so and moved the needle around in my vein which hurt SO BAD and left a huge bruise later. It was terrible. Then a woman came in (I guess the one that was supposed to be watching her) and said, "Oh you did it?" (I guess referring to taking my blood) in shock.
Then she left and I just sat in there for a while. Then she came back a while later and said, "Oh you can go now." So I went to the front and I said that I still needed the doctor's note and the woman at the front said, "Oh, he's in there." So I had to go GET him to write my note. He asked me when I was going back to work, I said I didn't know, that it depended on how I felt and he said, exasperated, "Well I have to put SOMETHING, I can't just leave it blank, " I said that yes he could, just to put that he saw me today and leave it at that, that's all I was asking but he kept insisting he could not do that. I was so fed up by that point I said JUST PUT TOMORROW.
So I paid, and the woman at the front said, "OK you can go." I said "Hello, a receipt?" So I went home. The next day I called to get the results from my test. No one answered, but I left a message. No call back. Called again Friday. The woman who I spoke to's name was Maizie (I believe) and I am not sure if it was the student nurse or not. The woman seemed very unsure and said, "I can't read these things, but it looks like your pregnant." I was very shocked, b/c I really did not think I was pregnant (I am on birth control and very rarely that month had sex with my boyfriend) and I was in shock. She had the nerve to ask me if I was happy, I said, "No, I am not married yet." Then she said, "Well I'm not sure but it looks that way." I said, "OK when will you know for sure?" She said this afternoon or MONDAY.
I hung up and started crying at work and called my boyfriend and he was upset and finally I called back and DEMANDED to know the results, that this was my LIFE and I was not waiting DAYS to find out if I was pregnant. Then she told me, "Oh you're not." I could not believe this. She had the nerve to say, "Well next time you will use birth control, " I said, "I DO use birth control, I was just making SURE because my period was late." Then she told me to call back with the pharmacy number to call in the antiobiotic. (Now mind you, they performed no tests on me besides the PG test, so how would they know what I had?)
So I called back with the number (this was early Friday afternoon). Friday evening when I got home from work I called the pharmacy to check on my Rx and can you believe they did not call it in??? By then the office was closed and I had to wait until Monday to call them. I called from work and the same woman said, "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought I did call it in." I said, "NO, the pharmacy told me no one called!!!" So I had to go on my lunch break and go get it... I just had to report this so no one goes through the frustration that I did...
