I paid $840 up front for a 3-year keep-fit membership at the boise idaho 24-hour fitness club. The contract allows the club upon closure to transfer those memberships in the event of closure. Under my contract, once the three years was up, I would have paid about $5 per month from then on.
Last week, the club announced it was closing and that memberships had been transfered to gold's gym. This is not the case. Gold's is not honoring these paid-up memberships under the same terms.in other word, I will have to pay the same monthly membership that other Gold's members pay.in a news report, other 24-hour fitness members told media they were confused about the "transfer" of their memberships to Golds. The Gold's gym manager stated that his organization is not buying the contracts.
Although I probably have no recourse due to wording in the contract, I feel I have been ripped off and that others should proceed with caution before purchasing a long-term gym membership. It is here today but may be gone tomorrow along with your hard-earned money.
