Two complaints about I felt cheated by Dish Network

I) I signed up with Dish Network about 8 months back. I was very clear with the representative that I am going to use Dish Network for 6-8 months as I needed it for my mom who was visiting me from LA for that time period. I had discounts from my company with Dish on reduced monthly payment, installation fee waived as well as an American Express card for over $300. I was told to avail this, I will have to sign for 2 years contract which I did not. So I paid for installation, higher monthly payment ($98) and declined American express card. Dish also had some 3rd party call in and confirm this with me. I also had this explicitly written on the page that the Dish Network installer came to with me for that there is no contract on the service.

Now, 8 months fast forward and I called to disconnect the services. I was told that I have to pay penalty as I am disconnecting the service before 2 years. I was like - this can't be happening. I did everything before signing up to make sure I am not signing into a contract from paying for installation, declining the monthly discount and declining the Amex $300 card.

This is cheating and dishonesty by Dish to say the least. After lot of convincing and being nice and talking to supervisors and telling them I even had the paper from the installer that says there is no contract and if I did sign up for the contract, why would i be paying higher monthly payments. It was very stressful and upsetting that Dish did this to me. I also have Dish Network in my home in Los Angeles and explained to them that I am just having my mom move back to our home in LA and not really disconnecting Dish - the supervisor say she will make an exception.

I am still to receive my last bill and I hope Dish was honest this time and have truly not charged me any penalty. It's unfortunate that they make their customers go through this and leave a bad taste which will make me think twice to ever sign-up with Dish.

My mom really likes some international channels for which I will continue paying for my dish network in Los Angeles. If I had an option, I probably wouldn't have stayed Dish's customer in Los Angeles for all they made me go through.

Ii) I received the Receiver return instructions along with the return label and box to send back dish's receiver and remotes. The instructions in this says i have to remove LNBF from satellite dish. I called dish to explain that this is a townhouse community with pre-wired Dish network stuff. There is no individual dish that was installed for me. The dish network installer just went to the main junction box and connected my home. There is no concept of dish - the main junction has all cable providers pre-wired. The representative kept arguing that every home owner has a dish and lnbf and every apartment owner has one too so I should have it as well. Now, why Dish did not make this clear to me during installation time that the return will involve these steps that they will not perform but I have to do. Now I do not have an LNBF but dish insists I have one with my Dish. The instructions says i will be charged $149 if I do not return this.

Although I have been nice and given all benefits of doubt to dish for human errors/mistakes, given the 2 incidents, it certainly makes feel Dish Network came out as dishonest and not bothered about having long term customer satisfaction or repeat business.
