Sprint PCS
Ripoff, horrible customer service, porting nightmare, service not working

I bought a phone at Radio Shack from Sprint PCS. I had contacted Sprint for information before doing so. I was told that when porting the number I would be able to place calls with my Sprint but could only receive calls on my Verizon phone until the port was final which was scheduled for approx. 3 weeks time. I was willing to do this as you only have two weeks to return the phone under their guarantee of satisfaction.

The phone was purchased on 4-15-04.16th not working. 17th, still not working so I called Sprint and talked to a very UNhelpful customer service rep and was basically told "oh, well, not our problem" "You'll have to wait until May 10th." I told him that was not what I was told before purchasing and at time of purchase and again received the "oh well, too bad". I explained again about the two week time frame that would expire before the phone would even be in service. No help! When I asked to speak to a supervisor he refused. He told me they would say the same thing so "no" I could not speak to a supervisor.

I immediately got on line and e-mailed them and complained about the person I spoke to. I went to the store and talked to a salesperson who called Sprint and was told it would be working after midnight on 4-20-04. I then received an email on the 20th saying I would see results within 24 hours. Wrong! No results. Finally, I told them if it was not working by noon on the 23rd, I would return the phone and cancel my service as I was only getting a very weak signal and sometimes no signal.

23rd, no service so that afternoon I returned the phone and canceled my service, over the phone with help from the salesperson and also spoke to the rep myself. On the 24th I received a bill dated from March 18th through April 17th for 102.88. I thought it was a mistake since I did not buy the phone until the 15th of April so I called Sprint and was told my service had not been terminated the day before but they would terminate it at that time but the bill was owed. At first they insisted I about the phone on March 15th but then agreed it was April 15th, but told be the only bill in full months so I owed the bill. I told them they had to prorate but they said they do not and that since I had time on the next billing cycle I would pay another full month or they would ruin my credit. They said I could not do anything about it because they are the largest cell phone provider and can "do as we please and you can't do anything about it and that people say they will but they can't do anything." I was also told he was putting a note on my account so "no one will be able to adjust your account" I hung up and immediately e-mailed them. My account was adjusted down to $55.36. I will have to pay this amount but do not feel it is fair as their service would not even work for me. I have contacted the FCC and am waiting for a response from them. I am also contacting the Chicago TV stations so even if I have to pay, hopefully more people will be alerted to stay away from Sprint. How many people are frightened into paying without knowing how to go about fighting them?! If I had not fought them I would have paid almost $160.00 for no service! I wish I had found this site before buying my phone! I am not through trying to alert people and hope others do the same.
