Verizon - Verizon Wireless
Will Stop at Nothing to Make a Buck

I was informed that Verizon implemented a policy in January that requires customers to purchase pricy data plans in order to activate most desirable phones on the market. That is extortion. I have been a loyal and timely paying customer of Verizon Wireless for over a year. My husband and I have a family plan. I purchased a new Verizon phone from an outside source because I got a great deal and did not want to sign another 2-year agreement in order to receive a reasonable price. When I inquired about activating the phone, I was told I would have to sign up for a minimal $29.99 data plan (internet access) in order for activation to take place. I purchase my phones for other reasons that have nothing to do with having access to the internet. I was also informed that all the other phones in which I am interested in upgrading would require a mandatory data plan. I was especially shocked to find out that if I upgraded to the newer model of the same phone I currently use, I would also have to purchase a data plan even though it was not required when I purchased the phone just a yr. Ago. The new policy is extortion. If my husband and I had known these policies were going to be implemented, we would have never signed on with Verizon. Verizon is extorting money from customers by requiring data plans for all desirable phones in order to make a larger profit. I am aware that i-Phones and Blackberries have always had this policy, but they have no right to implement the policy with multiple desirable phones (especially phones that never required data plans before). If so, customers should have the option of being released from their contract. My husband and I are so disappointed with Verizon that we want to cancel our contract with no penalties. This policy was not in place when we signed our contract, therefore, we feel as though we have every right. Unfortunately, after having to contact the Better Business Bureau, a Verizon rep contacted me and still gave us no out for my contract without paying $150.00. Verizon has a complete lack of customer service and is changing their contract terms and conditions w/o notifying their customers. Customers are not allowed to change their contracts. Verizon is an unlawful company!!!
