Purchased new Brother MFC 845c (top-of-the-line ink jet multi function printer/fax/copy machine) one year ago at Staples, in Solana Beach, CA. Light home use for just one year, and less than 200 printed sheets. Printer failed to print black, despite using built-in menu programs, following exact directions to clean print head, calibrate, reload new ink cartridges, etc. I also have eight years of electronic education, and 35 years repair experience and have worked in high-tech medical imaging, for 3 years. I think I'm qualified to understand this is design failure; not operator-related. I then attempted to disassemble the unit, using this knowledge, since the warranty is up. I found that the snap-fit case was made to be a one-way assembly, preventing service of any inside component, without breaking parts to obtain access to the print head, for flushing and service.
