Deceptive warranty practices for a 30 day-old product

I bought a Panasonic KXFL511 fax/copier for about $239 at a Office Depot store. Within 35 days, it was producing smudged pages with vertical lines. I called Panasonic support and was told how to clean the various potential things, but it did not work - the same exact problems continued. I was then told I needed to BUY a new drum at a cost of $115 shipping. I asked "What about the warranty?" and I was told that it was a "limited warranty" and the warranty did not cover that particular part, even though the machine was only 35 days old.

I asked about the limited warranty, and was told that the store clerk could explain it, and also that the warranty was located on page 35 of the instruction manual. I called the store and the clerk said he did not really know what it covered, and that the manual was sealed inside the box and he never read it. The store manager wanted to keep my business, so he gave me another machine under the condition that I buy an extended service contract with Office Depot which I gladly did.

I'm just waiting for the KXFl511 to fail again, now that I'm covered!

Thank you Office Depot and Panasonic can go to hell!

I called Panasonic and told them that I was a consultant (I am) and that I had just told a client to buy a Kyocera instead of the Panasonic they were considering for their large office network and that their bogus "warranty" had cost them a $5600 sale! They didn't seem to care.
