Hughes Network Systems — Very Poor Customer Service

Hughesnet has an arrogant attitude and is not user friendly! Trying to get information using their website is a lengthy and annoying process. Even with my client number, my phone number, and my serial number for their equipment, it took almost an hour to sign in to their site.

When I tried to cancel my service, they told me they would charge $300 because I was cancelling the contract early. I have had Hughesnet service for the past 6 years! Their reasoning: about a year ago they sent me an email telling me they were offering me a free upgrade; they said there were no strings attached and they were offering it to maintain "excellent customer satisfaction". I told them I'd take the upgrade (which was supposed to make my very slow service faster). Now, they say by getting the upgrade I agreed to renew my contract with Hughes and now I haven't had the new contract long enough to cancel my subscription without a penalty. I don't remember signing anything or seeing anything about a new contract, but of course I don't have any paperwork so can't prove it. And besides, why would I need to renew my contract when I already had a contract? On top of it all, the "upgrade" did nothing to improve my service. I think it was all a ploy just to lock people into a new contract so they wouldn't cancel their service.

I decided to cancel the service anyway — paid the $300 just to get rid of this lousy service and rude company! I bought a 3G plugin for $10 at, plugged it into my computer, and get faster internet service than I ever had with Hughes. I pay a monthly fee that is LESS expensive than Hughes. Hughes, you are an outdated company we don't need anymore! Sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company. Plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome.
