Check Payment Denied, Bill Now $3000 After One Month of Phone

I was talking with them about a past due bill and I gave them a check to post date for the amount owed and they said ok and now they are telling me that they never talked to me and that my bill is now 3000.00 and I have only had the phone a month and my bill is only 119 at 8 this morning so how did it get so high so fast
