Verizon Wireless Upgrade Policy Scam

My dad purchased the Verizon MOTOKRZR for me in January. The phone seemed a little slow but nothing too serious. Two months after I had the phone it started acting up.

It would turn itself off, block certain phone numbers randomly, it wouldn't tell me if I had a missed call, and it would freeze up and the screen would start flashing. Then the battery started getting weird. I would charge the phone for a few hours, turn it off, and in the morning it would say LOW BATTERY. I started charging it over night, and when I tried making a call the battery would die instantly. I thought all these problems were just the battery, so I replaced it, same issues. I put up with it for as long as I could.

In October I took it into a verizon store in Union City, they told me I was eligible for an upgrade in a few days. I went into a verizon store in San Leandro, where the phone was purchased, and they told me I wasn't eligible for an upgrade until October. I never dropped, threw, or damaged the phone to my knowledge, but the charging port broke.

Today I brought the phone into the same verizon store by myself -I'm sixteen and I look like I'm twelve - and told them about the problems I've been having with my phone. They asked me if I had the contract on hand, I said no, so they asked for my phone number, told me once again I wasn't eligible for an upgrade until October. They told me they could replace the same phone (with all the same defects) for $50.00, then they said I could just buy a new phone for $500.00 which would be the full retail price for the phone I wanted (the Blackberry Pearl). I've been a customer for almost five years, same phone number and everything, the fact that they're telling me I can't get a phone for the discount price, when I had insurance on my phone, just doesn't seem right to me.

I'm going back to the store later today with my dad, if they tell him something different then what they told me, I'm going to flip out and drop verizon all together.

I recently found out Verizon in a billion dollar lawsuit for early cancellation fees as well. I like their coverage, but they're just sneaky. Also, the UNLIMITED TEXT plan they have, isn't actually unlimited. Only the first 5000 texts are free. I realize that seems like an awful lot, too much maybe, however, most teens communicate solely through text, thats why they make phones with keyboards now... But that's neither here nor there. Does this seem wrong to anybody else or am I just being silly?
