Dish Network And EchoStar
Charging $300 for a returned working box more than 3 yrs old

I was having trouble with my box not recording.in fact, all of the programs I had recorded were erased and I was not able to record. I continued to pay for this service for at least six months.

I spent several attempts with technical help for hours over the phone to no avail. On one occassion, my husband was on the phone for 2 hours and was hung up on.

Sometime in April/ May I called and told Dish I wanted to quit the service because of these problems and because I thought their prices were too high compared with the new offers I'd seen. They told me they would lower my monthly service rate for 6 months and send me out a new box if I'd agree not to quit the service.

I said o.K. I would see if this works. We received the new box and returned the one we'd had for approx. 3 years. A couple of weeks latter, I received a bill with a charge of $300 for the returned box and I did not show that my monthly rate had changed. I called and complained and they said the box was damaged. (I know it was working before) They agreed to give me a discount on the monthly rate but had no notes that it was suppose to continue at a lower rate for 6 months.

We had trouble getting the new box to even work to get the basic service - and have not even been able to test for recordability. After several more hours with a technician, he decided it was the remote and had another one sent out. Today, we must get up to change the channel and have not been able to get the technical help to return us to the basic service or quality we originally had. I've recorded the latest conversations with the DISH personnel to ensure I'm not lied to again.

I recently saw a full page ad in the Dallas Morning News for DISH service. For all of the money they spent on this ad, they would have more subscribers if they would treat they current subscribers honestly and not have to endure all of the negative reports on this site.
