Worst Customer Service Imaginable

Before telling my story let me just say that this companys treatment of their customers is incredibly bad. Once you sign up and commit to a one year term or whatever they don't seem to care if you ever get any decent reception: just keep paying the bill they send you. They must be incredibly stupid when you consider how little it costs to to keep an existing customer happy compared to how much it costs to sign up a new one.

To prove my point just search Direct TV on this site and note that Direct TV which has a larger audience the Dish Network has only 211 complaints against them compared to the 635 for Dish Network (as of this writing). That really says it all.

Now for my story.

I'm signed up with Dish about 8 months ago because of their larger variety of HD programming compared to my local cable. For the first 3 months after the system was installed I was constantly losing the signal at critical points in a program, when it worked at all. They came out 4 times to work on the system. Each time I had to spend the better part of an hour on hold to set up an appointment, wait a week before they could come out, and take a half day off from work to wait for them on the appointed day.

The problem turned out to be the dish was improperly installed, it was too loose and could move, and various connections in the wiring were not properly made. Why did it take 4 visits before they sent someone who knew how to connect wires? I was never offered any redution on my bill for an almost unusable system or any compensation for my time, aggravation and the two days I spent at home waiting for them.

Anyhow reception has been fine the last few months and I purchased another HDTV and needed a second HD receiver. I called up and an appointment was set up the following week for them to install. They called the night before to confirm they were coming and I should be there between 8AM and Noon. Fine, I took another half day off from work. At 10AM they called to say they weren't coming after all because they did not have the equipment I ordered available. They couldn't get in within a week? They couldn't tell me this the night before when they called to tell me they would be here? The couldn't call first thing in the morning so that I could go into work?

Anyhow you should have the message by now. Get Direct TV or stick with your lousy cable company, they couldn't possibly be as lousy as Dish Network.
