We had a contract with Dish Network that was nearly up and we were also moving. We decided to end the contract early with Dish Network and made a one-time payment to end our contractual obligations with them as per their instructions. We were instructed to keep their equipment (receiver and remote) until we moved and call them when we were at our new address and that they would then send us a return box.
We called them as soon as we arrived and requested a box. When the box hadn't arrived we called them to get an update. They told us they sent it to the old address, even though they had our correct address on file. They said they would send "another" box to our current address. 3 weeks later we still ahd not received the box so we called them. They assured us the sent it on "Monday" and we would get it any day. That was 1 month ago, we still haven't received it. A few days ago, I noticed 4 charges on my VISA from Dish Network, one $82.00 charge, which was our regular monthly charge, two $5.16 charges and a $2.00 charge. These were fraudulent, unauthorized charges. We made one-time payments with our credit card, they kept the number on file and decided to charge us at-will.
We called the credit card company to have the charges reveresed. They informed us that Dish Network could continue to charge our card without our permission unless the number was change. Luckily for us, that account was canceled due to other fraudulent activity. We called Dish Network to complain about not receiving the return box, and only at this point did they tell us the box was a courtesy and it was our responsibility to send back their equipment and that this was in the contract. They said another box was in the mail.
I called back and asked to speak to management to complain about their fraudulent billing practices and was assured by an "executive manager" named Nancy Estrada (phone number 915-298-5774) that it was perfectly legal for them to charge us whenever they wanted and keep our CC information on file even though we have phone 6 times to get a return box and they have this on file. They never once told us to send it back on our own or where to send it nor did they call to ask us if we had the equipment. This Nancy told me that they attempted to send us a box but it was unsuccessful for some reason even though NO UPS signature is required to receive the box! When I explained to her I am at home every day and have received multiple deliveries from UPS that were left at my door, she had no response. She actually got angry and refused to give me a tracking number for the new return box that has been issued. She told me she was hanging up on me and when I asked her if she would phone me with the tracking number later she said "I'll think about it."
I know they purposely did not send us a box or give us detailed information on how to return their equipment so that they could charge our credit card. I can't believe that it is legal for a company to keep your credit card information from a one-time payment and then charge your card whenever they want as many times as they want! I am worried that even though we are sending back their equipment on our own, they will claim they didn't receive it and continue to charge us somehow, they are that scummy.
I would strongly advise anyone against doing business with them. I have heard how they will empty people's bank accounts for hundred of dollars in bogus charges multiple times.
