Extended warranty but takes months to fix, then TV blows up! Ripoff

We bought a 52" RCA HDTV and purchased the extended warranty. We had it for a year and everything was great, then one day it just turned off and when it came back on the colors are separated and it looks bowed in the middle. Good thing we have a warranty right?!?! Not exactly.

Ok, so a few days later a technician, Roger comes out and takes a look at the TV, he plays around with it for about an hour or so and tells me he has to order a part. Blah blah whatever. A circuit board went out and it will be another week, whatever.

Ok, so a week goes by and Roger is back again. He opens up the back of the TV and guess what. WRONG PART! Ok, so Im mad but what can I do. He says he is going to put a rush on the correct part but this happens often, that many TV's he is working on he has been trying to fix for well over 2 months!

A week and a half go by here comes Roger again. He opens the back of the TV looks at it and says, Nope, wrong part I tell him Are you Serious?! Omg! I am so mad at this point he actually says but I will try to make it work. So he busts out a soldering iron and starts messing with things ugh! You shouldnt be rigging my TV! So he now says, it is actually the power supply and he will have to order yet another part.

So my hubby is livid by this point and calls to file a complaint with corporate and files a complaint online. He actually gets a call from corporate (Tony) who states from their records the problem has been resolved and to call them back if that isnt the case WTF? No our TV isnt fixed. We call back, leave a message on Friday no return call but the service center says they are coming out tomorrow to fix the TV ok we have family things already planned on Saturday and there is no way we can be at home for 2 hours while he messes with the TV. So he says he will get to us on Tuesday. Sounds great right?!

Roger supposed to be here between 1-3pm. At 11:30 I go to the store. I have enough time to get the few things I need, eat and get home. Oh no, he shows up an hour early so I have to leave my basket full of stuff at the store and rush home gggrr! He works on the TV for like 2 1/2 hours its working woo hoo. We watch TV everything is great.

Then

My husband turns on the 360 to play some Halo the damn TV almost catches on fire. It turns on and off by itself and starts making a burning smellwe had to unplug it from the wall OMG!

He then calls BACK to Circuit City to see what they are going to do about it. They dont like the fact that the technician was rigging the TV and what have you. They tell him they are putting in an order for a replacement TV woo hoo! After filling out the form and keeping him on hold she tells him, here is your confirmation number, call back tomorrow after 8am to talk with corporate to state your case to see about getting a new TV WTF?! This is just crazy! Call Corporate AGAIN to have someone NOT call back?!?! OMG!

So he calls corporate this morning and the girl is nice, but says he has to have a different technician come out tomorrow to look at the TV to see if it should be fixed or replaced... Now I'm sorry, but I don't want this damn TV in our house if it was trying to catch on fire. What if it shorts out our Xbox? Are they going to pay $500 for a new one? I don't care what they do to try and make this right, we have waited for a month for them to make our TV almsot catch on fire. I hate Circuit City and I won't even buy even a DVD from them.

By the way, Roger, while he was here the last time also stated he has been working on a $3000 Plasma TV for over 3 months and it still isn't fixed. Now I'm sorry but that is just ridiculous! Someone should not have to wait that long to get their TV working. Especially when you pay so much for the TV and extra for the warranty.

From reading other reports on here it looks like this is fairly normal practice for Circuit City. If you are going to purchase an expensive item, I would NOT recommend Circuit City at all.
