On Dec. 31 in the evening, I was googling looking for a great price on a Canon A630 camera and found The Digital Expo site had them far lower than their competitors. The site looked legit and I placed my order and immediately got an e-mail conformation with a request to call their 800 number and finalize the order.
I didn't call right away so they called me and started the most aggressive switch and bait routine I have ever heard so it ran up the price with things "I needed" and free things thrown in to keep it going. Then I was told my credit card didn't go through, which was weird because I don't carry over balances. Next, I gave them my debit card, so now they had two. - BIG MISTAKE!
Well, my bank account showed that they had processed the debit amount immediately but no conformation e-mail came, no activity showed in my account with them and nothing was in the shopping cart so I called them back. They explained that because of the holiday nothing would be processed until Tues. Jan. 2nd. A flat lie because they had already ran my card.
Then I cancelled my entire order. The "manager" got very rude and nasty, telling me there would be a 20% restocking fee which I said I wouldn't pay because, quote "nothing had been processed."
Then I got a call from the first VISA card I gave them saying they refused the amount because they suspected fraud. I cancelled my cards on the spot and put fraud alerts on all my accounts and talked to my bank first thing when they opened.
I suspect that they don't really have any merchandise to sell but are just collecting data. My bank did not honor their debit amount so I am not out any money. It was a close call and I am a whole lot wiser.
