The Digital Expo, The Camera Whiz
Blatant bait and switch and overcharge scam

I found the cheapest price for Canon G7 camera ($453.90) at "digitalexpo.com" and I placed an order on their web form. At the top of the completed form, it asked me to call 1-800-957-6628 to place the order. The next morning, I did that and got extension 203 "Jeffrey." He gave me the tale that the battery would last only minutes and that I needed a four-hour battery. He then said that I needed 2gb memory. Thinking that I was dealing with a responsible store, I agreed. Then I asked the price and found that the total bill was $783.16 for a camera that was listed as $453.90.

I tried to cancel the order but was told that my credit card had been charged and the package was being prepared. When I got the package, it included a battery that can be bought for about $15 anywhere and an outdated 2GB memory chip the new version of which is available for about $60 everywhere. The invoice is for a total of $783.00, over $325 above the price of the camera for add-ons worth far less than $100.

The invoice with the package is NOT from "thedigital expo" but from "The Camera Whiz", with the same phone number as "the digitalexpo" The invoice says that the purchase is a "value package" and lists no individual prices. When I called to complain, Jeffrey had an answer for everything and obviously is an expert bait and switch artist and he clearly would not take a return or consider any adjustment (including the charge of $64.01 for shipping instead of the $14.90 promised on the web). An October ripoff report appeared in October:

The Digital Expo, The Camera Whiz, StargatePhoto Liars! Ripoff! Rude! Bait & Switch! Brooklyn New York

Apparently, StargatePhoto is another front they use. Clearly, this is a well-organized group of thieves who change their web addresses as the news of their rip-offs spreads.

I have just checked the and the page indicates that the domain has expired and it refers you to BestPrice.com and DigitalSaver.com. It is not clear if these are other fronts of the same scam artists.

Stay clear of both theCameraWhiz.com and the Digital Expo
