I purchased an external Western Digital 80 gig hard drive the last week of June from Circuit City.cc offered a $20 rebate, and WD had a $30 rebate on top of that.
CC got my rebate back to me within 3 weeks. About a month after that, I received a postcard from WD stating that I had included an invalid (or missing) UPC symbol with my submission. Since there were two unique UPC symbols on the box, I accepted this might be a possibility, so I cut out the remaining one and resubmitted it (to the El Paso center, the location for the original submission).
Several weeks later, I got another postcard stating I had submitted the wrong UPC symbol. After many days, I finally got a response to email to the rebate team, who indicated I could just fax the correct symbol to them. For the first of at least 5 times over the course of three months, I explained there were no more UPC symbols on the box because I had already emailed every one!
Then the rebate team representative said they were requesting my original submission materials. Over a month later, they had not received these materials and would offer to do nothing else to help (unless I wanted to just fax them the correct symbol - see above).
The rebate would have represented about 1/3 of the purchase price, and I consider that significant. All I want is what was advertised.
