The make me buy a one yea warranty, now expires, ripoff

I bougth the pt 50lc13 in la habra california. I bougth a one year warrantee. How do they know that this produc i will only last a year? I call a technitian to check it guess what, its $475 to fix. He saids the most comon problems a lamp and some regulator. If you know a recall center for this widescreen tvs let me know
