Ripoff, misrepresentation, fraud: approached by man claiming to have extra stereo equipment

I was working as an electrician outdoors in Pittsburg, California when I was approached by an Asian man. He claimed to be en route to deliver home theater systems to some area installer. He said that he was given 2 extra home theater systems and, in order to avoid having to split the value of the extra goods with his co-workers, he wanted to sell me one of the systems so he could keep more of the profit. The box clearly showed that the "list price" of the system is $2499.00, yet I paid only $300.00. What a bargain!

Upon opening the box, I found that it was not a complete home theater at all but instead some speakers, speaker wire and an amplifier. The box contained no owner's manual, no instructions, no nothing. The only paperwork was a "warranty registration" card which is not postage-paid, as are most genuine warranty cards. The address on the card is a post office box in Ontario, CA.

Lastly, any information on the product brand name, Palerma, is virtually non-existent. The man told me that Palerma is an Italian company, however there is no identifiable information anywhere on the box. It should be noted that the warranty card contains several misspellings and there is no clear serial number on the box or anywhere on the equipment. I was clearly scammed.
