Rip off, does not honor $150 upgrade, changed rules & forcing to resign up for another 2 years

I wish I had read up on Sprint here before entering into a contract with them.

I purchased my phone in January. When I bought my phone I inquired about upgrades to my phone after having it for a while. Having sold Sprint Cell Phones before I knew that upgrades existed. I was told by the RadioShack sales clerk that after 18months of service with Sprint I would be eligable to receive a FREE phone up to a $150 value. I thought wow that was great. I was told there were no catches & I would not have to re-up myu contract or anything like that. It was something Sprint offered as a kickback for having been a customer with them & signing a 2 yr agreement.

Well, now my story. As of July 1st 2005 I was eligable for my FREE $150 phone. I started to inquire up upgrading a few months ago trying to decide which phone to go with for the area I am in. Well I called Sprint CS & started asking about upgrading. Right away the CS rep said I would have to re-up for a new 2yr contract. I told her that I was not going to re-up for anything & that I had been told that I would not have to do that.

After some arguing with the CS Rep I was told that she could let me upgrade with just a 1yr contract. I thought ok, 1 yr is better then another 2yrs. & left it at that for the day.

In June I called back again & got nowhere fast, I was hung up on by 3 different CS Reps, told I could not speak with a Supervisor. This was when I found out that the $150 FREE phone was now a mail in rebate & that I was not guaranteed that amount because it was up to Sprint to decide if they felt I should get it. I then filed a BBB Report against Sprint hoping that would get their attention & just maybe I might be able to get the $150 FREE phone that was promised to me when I signed up for my service. Well it's been several weeks & still no response to my BBB complaint.

I decided once July 1st roled around I would wait a few days & call & see what could be done since now my 18 months was officailly here. I called on July 8th, now, here's where the run around really starts.

I was told by the CSREP that I now was eligable for a $25 mail in rebate for my phone!!! NOT the $150 as I was promised or even what I was told a few weeks prior by the CS Rep. So now I am was really p'd off. I started asking what happened to the $150 rebate from a few weeks ago.

Here is what I was told:
I could get a $25 rebate with a 1 yr contract, I could get a $75 rebate with a 2 yr contract, Wait I could get a $75 rebate with a 1 yr contract if I wait until after 1 to upgrade (which is when my current contract is up) & I could get the full $150 mail in rebate with a 2yr contract after 1.

I asked just when they decided this & was told that Sprint changed their upgrade program July 7 (7days after I was eligable for the $150 original rebate) Now that's convinience!!!

I asked to speak with a SUP & was told I couldn't & was hung up on once again. This time I got the CS Rep's name & ID # BEFORE I was hung up on. Yep, his name is now included in my new BBB report filed on July 8th.

I called corporate office & tried to talk to Gary Forsee & was told that was not possible. I called an office in TX where I actually got a response from a Ms. Jackson. She said she wanted to see what she could do to resolve the issues I was having.

Well I told her that I wanted the FREE phone as promised & that I did not want to re-up my contract but if was forced to I would go with a 1 yr contract maximum. She stated she would get back to me the next day & let me know what could be done or at least update me. As promised she called the next day to say she was waiting for her SUP to get back to her. It's been 3 days now since I heard from her.

After reading the other complaints on here today I called Ms. Jackson back & left her a message stating that I no longer wish to re-up for 1 yr & that I refuse to extend my contract with Sprint. Either I received the FREE phone as promised, or I will be cancelling my service when my contract is up.

I feel that I have been jerked around by Sprint long enough on this matter & the lack of response I have received from either BBB report shows me that they don't care about their customers. I was also not happy with the fact that I have not heard back from Ms. Jackson about this matter.

Long story made short, no matter what you are told when looking to buy a Sprint Cell Phone, they change their rules, & contracts WITHOUT warning to their customers. If you think you will be getting one thing from Sprint more then likely it will change shorty before or after you are to get it. My advice, stay clear of Sprint, there are too many "HIDDEN" clauses & changes you aren't aware of.
