My report will read just as many other that I have read on here. Signed up in September with Dish Network and moved my service in October. Ok... No problems. Then I moved in March to a residence that already had the Dish Service. So I contacted Dish, sent in my equipment, etc.
Now today I received an email from this VMC whom I had never even heard of stating that I terminated early and owed them 290.00. First I thought it was a joke... Who bills by email? After many calls today, I realize that they are really trying to extort this money from me. Called Dish and they simply hid behind the "3rd Party Retailer" but couldnt explain how I signed up when I went through the Dish website. When I called VMC and asked for a signed copy of my agreement with them, I was told by a "senior customer rep" that they didnt have that... So I must have called in.
He then said that I could pay now or they would send me in to their "collection agency" in 5 days. I have spoken to a friend tonight that is an attorney and I went over all of these complaints that were exactly like mine... He doesnt handle this type of law but he thinks it sounds like a case for a class action lawsuit. As he said, "how many have just paid this 290.00 because they were afraid to fight back."
I have contacted the fairfax County Consumer Protection Division and I plan on contacting my attorney general in Texas tomorrow.
Finally, a parent at my school in which I am a principal is a local anchor here at one of our TV stations... Plan on talking to him tomorrow to see if he/station would like to look into this... Because I think this may be even bigger than we think it is. I will keep everyone posted on my progress.
