I purchased my iPad 2 on April 7 and was encouraged to buy the extended warranty. I usually don't buy extended service warranties on my computer and electronic purchases however, the rep told me that the batteries for the iPad were expensive and they start to lose juice before the 1 yr regular warranty so the $80.00 was well worth it just for the battery replacement. Well, it is December 2, still within the 2 years from purchase and both Best Buy and the insurance company (Assurant) tell me too bad, not covered. The actual quote from one of the emails I received, "We cover any functioning part of your item except: physical or liquid damage, lost or stolen and of course any software issues like virus etc...", the battery is still functional, it just doesn't last very long without being plugged in, about an hour.
I purchased the iPad in Vancouver, Canada but I am now living in Atlanta, USA, and neither US or Canada Best Buy customer service could give me any explanation other than, I should call the original store that I purchased from and tell them to inform their staff about the incorrect information being given to customers, Really!
I realize this is just me getting it off my chest and that I am just 1 small drop in the bucket for Best Buy, but I will be going elsewhere to make my ANNUAL purchase of a desktop and laptop, along with supplies. And, I'll be sure to let everyone I know to do the same. Also, since my work involves advising clients on computer purchases, I will be telling them they should be looking at anywhere else to buy and that not only is Best Buy customer service terrible but they lie. Just one last note, I have been on hold with customer service for over a half hour, I guess once they found out I was complaining they decided to ignore me.
