Ripoff uknown bank card charges

In examining my latest bank statement, I came across a mysterious charge of $7.00 (on my check card: visa, but linked to my checking account). When I looked at old statements, I also saw the $7.00 charge on my last 3 statements, too). I thought it was something my husband did. When I discovered he knew nothing about it, and I couldn't think of what business I had done online that would have charged that.

SO, I decided to call the number that was on the statement (next to WLI reservationrewards). The recording identified itself, and there was an option to cancel my member ship. But I didn't know my membership #, not knowing about this.

So, I cancelled the membership, and was given an authoriztion # and the latest charge would be refunded, and would not be charged further. I decided to call the company during business hours and spoke to a "Real" person, who explained to me that the $7.00 would be refunded to my account, and no more charges would be made (we'll see). I then asked how I got linked up to this "organization" because I didn't remember signing up for this. He went on to tell me that In June I had joined classmates.com and, received a reduced membership rate on classmates.com by "joining" this reservations rewards, and it was to have been a 30 day trial of the service, and if not wanted, I needed to cancell it.

Well, I don't recall that. But after reading many of the entries on usacomplaints.com, I am understanding that many people were aware of this "agreement" or this company. Our bank was somewhat helpful in that they couldn't really block payment or put an alert on it, but they did say if I am charged again, that I can do an "unauthorized transaction" report, and they would be able to go after the party and get us our many back.

What a racket. Please, if you all learn anything from this... Be aware of your bank statements.
