Counseling and Mental Health Exam
February I attended the residency
that was offered in Jacksonville, Florida. On the first day of the residency
were we told to pair off and practice role plays. A PhD intern by the name of
Elaine Hoit totally humiliated me, by telling me that she should kick me out of
class.initially, I thought that Elaine was only kidding around. I asked her if
she was only kidding and she repeated what she had told me previously and dismissively
threw my residency book on the floor. When we reassembled, Dr. Neil Duchac
asked if there were any questions.
Since, it has been communicated to me that
I was doing something wrong I asked Dr. Duchac the instructions for role-plays.
He never answered my question but told me to come out in the hallway with him.
Once in the hallway he was very abrasive, and told me to sit down. I explained
to Dr. Duchac what occurred, he advised me that I would not be working with
Elaine anymore. On the fifth day of the residency I asked Dr. Duchac if I could
speak with him in private. I asked him where I would obtain information about
filing a formal grievance.
He took me to Dr. Sheri McIntyes office, I
explained to her what happened. She then told me that I would have to re-do the
entire residency. I live in Philadelphia, Pa and the residency was in Jacksonville,
Florida. Since I am a flight attendant and fly stand by I flew to the residency
a day early. I asked her why and she
first told me that it was reported to her by my instructors Dr. Neil Duchac and
Dr. David Whittinghill that I had been fighting with all of my classmates and that I had thrown a
book at one of them.
I
tired to explain to Dr. McIntype that these accusations were totally false. She
told me that she goes with the word of her professors. I then asked to speak
with the Dean of the Residency. Dr. Sherri McIntype informed me that she was it..
That there was no one that I could talk to I was later called from my hotel
room and informed that I could complete the residency online. I was given two
papers to write, I completed that papers and never received feedback or a grade
for these assignments. I filed a formal grievance and Capella change everything
around like they had referred me.
I
was told that the board should only take about one week, It took Capella about 4 months to set up a board. I was given about 3 appointments by phone and
I was not able to make the appointments. I do not have a nine to five job, I am
an call flight attendant. Therefore, I have no idea when I am going to work or where
I am going until I am called. The review board made a decision based on the false
accusations of their instructors without allowing me defend myself. On the basis of the false accusations made against
me I was required to do 10 sessions of counseling and obtain 9 continuing
education units face to face on professional behaviors
. After I filed my grievance was the first
time that I heard that I was yelling at Elaine Hoit. There were about 32 people
in the class in which I have never received any documentation to support Dr.
Neil Duchac claim. The incident never
happened that is why there are no claims. Dr. Neil Duchac was ambiguous in his
statements, he accused me of being unprofessional with a student, but her never
identified the student of what I was doing that was unprofessional. He also accused
me of dong a role-paly that was about Bernie Madoff. First off, we were never
given any guidelines of what or what not to day in role plays. Secondly, I did
not do a role play about Bernie Madoff. After my role play about embezzling money
I commented that I often wondered how as a counselor I would counsel a person
like Bernie Madoff.
As a matter of fact he wrote all positive
statements in my residency book. Dr. Neil Duchac falsely accused me of yelling,
he at Elaine Hoit I sent Dr. Barbara
Cooper on twenty e-mails of the contacts I made concerning the assignment.in the end I called Dr. Cooper and left her a
message asking for her office hours and I also emailed her, both were ignored.
I
had another board in February and Dr. Beeler asked me about the assignment and
I explained to her what I had tried to do.
Because I told Dr. Beeler that I did not have the money to attend and
asked her for information of where I could find the requirements she stated in
the determination letter that she was disheartened by my response, and again
made false accusations that I was angry. She then required me to do 20 more
sessions of counseling and be evaluated by a mental health professional.
Dr.
Kimberly Nelson and Dr. Barbara Cooper
did not attend the board, but when I received the determination letter their
names were present as if they were there and they were not. I do not have the money to do counseling or be
evaluated by mental health professional. When I
tried to send my contacts to Dr. William Attride he told me to explain to him
why I was e-mailing in the middle of the night. Furthermore, the review boards at Capella are fraudulent and in my case were always in
favor of the school. When I received the review board comments, they leave out,
and add it comments to make the student look bad. I am 97,000.00 in debt and went further into
debt paying for the counseling. I sent
the results of the counseling to Dr. William Attridge. Before I could finish my counseling sessions
I was blocked from attending my next class.
I
was notified by learner support that I was blocked due to lack of communication.
I informed learner support that I had sent the result of the counseling to Dr.
William Attride and that he had never replied that the received that package. I
has also been communication with Dr. Barbara Cooper. At the present time I am
still blocked from starting my next class. The request was put in late, after I
remained my academic counselor and learner support. I have appealed my cases twice and twice they
have been denied. On March 23 I contacted the Dean David Chapman and I
have not heard anything back from him. If you are attending Capella record and
document everything, even the referral boards or you will be falsely accused. If anyone wishes to see the documentation please
let me know and I will be glad to send it to you.in conclusion, I have never
been in trouble, my school bills are paid on time and my grade point average is
3.8.
