Medvance Institute
Fortis Rip Off, Liars, Scam Artists, Theifs

I also attended Medvance for the Xray tech program, while I was there, they switched their name to Fortis. The first week of school, they took our pictures for student I. D's, it took over 3 months for my class of 15 to receive them. We never received our books the first day of class, it was usually not until the second week we actually got our books.

When I asked for the student portal website address, I was told to google it by an administrator of the school. I do not believe the "teachers" there were even qualified or certified to teach, what lead me to believe this is a "professor" I had that was only 24. I am only two years older than that, but is it possible for a 24 year old to be a Xray tech and get a teaching degree at the same time? The teachers turn a blind eye to cheating.

They'll also pass you no matter what, I was a 4.0 student who never missed a day, and there was another student who came to class once a week, every week, and was late every time. She got D's and F's on all her tests, midterm, and final. Not only are we graded on those tests, but also class participation and attendance... The teacher let her pass with a D, after coming to class about 5 times through out the whole six weeks. Half way into my second term, my grades from my last classes hadn't even been posted yet and it was 3 weeks after the first term ended!

Also, when you go to sign up, they tell you everything you want to hear.."Sure you can work in a hospital", "Yes, our credits are transferable".."Yes, we're accredited".. WRONG! Wrong! Wrong! The more research I did, the more I found out that hospitals will not accept the type of certificate you receive, only some clinics and doctors offices. The clinics and doctors offices will not hire you unless you have at least one year experience and Medvance doesn't inform you of that either. I also learned that any programs that are a year or less, are for people who have had experience in the medical field. Another thing that I learned is that they are not accredited through JRCERT, and I couldn't find them accredited through anyone else either.

When I went to voice my concerns to my program director, she was trying to convince me not to worry, everything would be fine... Her phone rang and she let the voicemail pick up. To my luck, it was a director of Baptist, which is a major hospital throughout south Florida, saying Baptist will not accept any interns from Medvance. When I heard that, I immediately withdrew and signed up at Dade Medical College where you not only get a degree, but you learn your trade, and they pay for the board. It's twice as expensive than Medvance, but at least I'll have a degree, be educated correctly, and not get screwed again.
