I was encouraged by a co-worker to attend the University of Phoenix to continue my education. I do not attend on-line classes, I attend the condenced night classes at the Mesa campus. At this time, I am only 6 classes away from graduation. Believe me, it has been NO smooth ride.
UOP discriminates against students who choose not to own credit cards. There used to be an on-campus bookstore where we could go and get our books for class. However, now the books may only be purchased on-line using a credit card. If you don't have a credit card, you can send a check, but it is pretty much garanteed that you will not be able to purchase used books since those students who do have cards buy the used books first. If you are sending a check, you must wait extra time for the check to arrive and clear before the book is sent out.in at least one case, I received my book on the last night of class - too late.
Some of the instructors really care about the students and should be teaching at "classier" institutions. The remainder of the teachers are there for a check. They don't teach anything, they just show what the software program can do and if we the students get it great! If not, too bad so sad. I have written letters to the President in Phoenix, AZ and the response I received was basically the same. We are a for-profit organization, so suck it up and drive on.
Also beware if you are planning to attend UOP that 30 to 40% of your grade in every class you take depends on your group. You may be the only person in the group doing any work, and the rest of the group will get the good grade along with you - or you will get the bad grade along with the rest of the group. There is very little focus on individual learning.
If you are planning to further your education and want to attend an accelerated college or university, I strongly suggest Western International University or Ottowa University in Arizona.
